The Sub-genres of Teen Drama Films

Teen Drama Films can be split into two categories:

High School Drama & Youth Drama

High School Drama: Got very popular during 70s/80s/90s. There were many variations within the genre itself. They tend to focus on changes, makeover and conflicts within groups at school. The teens and young adults often socialize in institutions such as School, home and college. The protagonist is often female but may focus on a male lead. Most High school dramas celebrate the idea of being young or youth as fun.

Youth Drama: Often troublesome teenagers going through difficult problems. The main character often tends to be rebellious and has conflict with other people. The focus is mainly on the trouble the main character faces and the difficulties of the adolescent experience with the protagonist often being the male. Most youth dramas seem to be a more authentic representation than high school dramas.
