Attack the Block

Macro

In the open sequence for a attack the block we follow the journey of a young woman in the dark. She is encountered by a gang where she is robbed, as she is being robbed there is an explosion in the car nearby which enables her to escape. We then see the explosion was the landing of an alien, the gang then chase the alien intto a warehouse and kill it.

Micro

Mise en Scene:

• At first we see a shot of the sky, there are fireworks and then it focuses onto a bustling city and a woman coming out a station.
• We then follow her journey.
• We see her encounter with a gang as she is robbed.

Camera:

• We see lots of close ups of the womans shoess and face and of the knife.
• A tracking shot is used to follow the womans journey.
• There is a zoom into the city from the shot of the sky.

Editing:

• There are lots of jump cuts when the boys are running.
• There are lots of special effect, epecially when the explosion happens.

Sound:

• At the beginning when they are introducingthe production companies, you can hear echoey whisper noises which add tension and help to set the scene.-non diagetic.

• There is tense music whic builds up suggesting something dramatic is going to happen.-Non diagetic.
• The gamng speaks using slang and swearing in accents indicating that they are from London.-diagetic.
• We hear lots of explosions, this supports what we can see e.g. fireworks-diagetic.
