We interviewed members of our audience about our title sequence and this is the feedback we received. This was after a cinema screening aimed at students only.

Directing & Filming

As I weren't part of the cast in our title sequence, I took the role of filming, directing and editing. I filmed most of the scenes that was part of our final cut. I enjoyed filming a lot as I got to be creative and create loads of shots that I imagined in my head and I enjoyed bringing them to life. It was also challenging trying to shoot some scenes, for example the phone scene when the girl is texting someone was a little bit challenging as I had to get it in the right angle on the tripod so you could read the text messages clearly. I also enjoyed editing and getting to be creative with all the scenes and creating the story.

Skills learnt

I have learnt many skills through the planning, research and production of this project.
Firstly I have learnt about researching and planning, and that it is key to research and plan thoroughly before going through with it so you have a clear idea of what you are aiming to do. In terms of filming, it is vital to be organised and have a clear plan of where and when you are filming and make sure you know exactly what you are filming.
While editing I learned a lot of skills like putting footage together, organising it and creating a story line through the images. I learned how to use final cut pro as this is the software we used to edit our title sequence. I also learned how to use garage band as we used this to create our sound track for the title sequence.
If I was to do this again some things I would change is researching a little bit more before we started filming. This is because when we tried to film some scenes they didn't come out the way we expected them to and we didn't have any alternative plans, so we had to think of them there on the spot. I would also be more organised and make a longer schedule as some days we would come in without a planned schedule in advance and we weren't sure what we should do.

Target Audience

As our title sequence was a youth drama, it was aimed at a younger target audience which was teenagers around 13-18. We tried to make it as relatable to our target audience as possible. I think we succeeded in doing this as it was based on a young teenage girl who meets someone online through social networking. Social networking is very common in teenagers as they all use Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat etc. We also wanted to highlight some of the dangers of not using social networking safely and what could happen if you trust people that you meet online that you don't know.
Furthermore, our title 'Deception' has the logo from Twitter as the 'T', this shows our audience what the film is based and what it might be about.

Our Initial idea was to use a house however owing to everyone in the group having a free house or room we were forced to change the scene to a cafe

However we found out that the scene couldn't be used because there's talking and title sequences ideally don't have speech in them.

 

So we had to change our ideas to the main character messaging the supposed guy she's meant to be meeting

On the titles, because the credits will be on the gravestones, we want to make the background of the titles dark and dull by using sepia and discreet colours with echo effects to create an eerie and fatal atmosphere.

Evaluation of rough cut

Upon completing the rough cut copy of Deception, we noticed many things we want to change and add to our title sequence. This included the addition of transitions in between our clips, this is because the transition between clips was very jumpy and it did not seem seamless, this meant our title sequence did not appear as professional, therefore I think adding cross dissolves and other transitions would improve our title sequence.
We also have to extend our music throughout our sequence. Our music cut out about half way through the clip so we need to sync our music to our clips properly and extend the music to the end.
We watched another groups video who were also doing a flashback, they showed this by playing their clip and rewinding it in fast motion. We may take up this idea and use it in our own to establish what is past and present more clearly.
We also obviously need to add the titles and credits to our clip, we think we will put these on the gravestones to add to the effect and make the titles more inetresting.
We are also considering putting filters on different scenes to add to the effect and add to the atmosphere.
Other than this we feel our title sequences is clear and makes sense.

Inspiration for Title Sequence - Trust

 

Another inspiration for our title sequence was a film called 'Trust'. This is a film with a similar story line to ours, a teenage girl meeting someone online who lies about who they are and they take advantage of her. This film also uses social networking to show the dangers young vulnerable girls can be put at if they aren't careful online, which is what we want to portray in our title sequence. We also have a chat shown in our title sequence between the girl and the person she meets online and so does this title sequence, so we can use this clip to inspire the way we edit our final draft.

Putting together our draft piece

On Wednesday 25th February we created our draft copy of Deceptions' title sequence. We split our group in two and took on different tasks. Myself (Zahra) and Dilem chose the clips we wanted to use and put it in the right sequence according to our storyboard. This included cropping the clips in appropriate places in order to create match cuts, we also had to use steadycam and blur effects to add to the atmosphere and feel of the film, this added tension. Malachi and Ernestina worked on the soundtrack for our film this included tense music for the graveyard scene, and music for the rest of the sequence. We then had to put the film and the music together, and ensure they were in time with each other. Once we had done this we had to shrink the file through Handbreak in order to post our sequence on blogger.

A rough cut of the first scene was done and blogged then the second scene was edited and then the third. Afterwards we put the edited shots together and produced this.

Some of our footage, specifically the graveyard had footage which was slightly shaky due to weather conditions. We smoothed this out with smoothcam, however it supposedly added to the effect of the filming.
