Evaluation of Planning & Production

The planning and production of deception was a long journey of mistakes and learning. Many skills that I never had before was learnt through the process of the deception planning and production. During the planning stage, I had to use my research skills to investigate and get inspiration for what title sequence we would like to carry out and to what target audience. This involved watching a variety of title sequences and teen dramas ranging from urban, gang youth dramas, to high school, love-plot dramas. After that process when we figured out what type of title sequence we wanted to carry out (which was youth drama), we took to the storyboard and started to create some ideas, drawing illustrations and captions so we can figure out where we wanted to go with our title sequence. There were many ideas and topics brought up as ideas we wanted to portray for our title sequence, such as gang violence, drug abuse and rape. However, we felt these topics were a little too sensitive for our 16+ target audience so we chose the topic of internet safety, involving a murder of a young girl when meeting up with a stranger from online. Many storyboards were conducted and we had many drafts and changes in our storyboard and production schedule due to problems such as bad weather conditions for filming and lack of equipment for filming. During the editing process it was difficult but rewarding as even though we all had different ideas on how we wanted to construct the sequences together and the effects we wanted to add, the end product was very satisfying and would hope portrays the hard work and effort that was put into the entire process. If I were to make another film project, the main thing I would improve on is the planning process. The planning process is where everything starts to come together and hard work has to be put in, so if it is messy and out of control it is extremely hard to come out with a quality piece of filming in the end. During the process I learnt how to use programmes such as Handbrake, Final Cut Pro and Garageband. These were all fully utilised in the production of our film project and helped devlope my skills in film making.
